Ron Gill has
been part of the Boston jazz scene for more than 20 years,
performing in concerts and on radio, television and variety
shows. Known for his extensive knowledge of the American
songbook, Gill toured with the Duke Ellington Orchestra, directed
by Mercer Ellington. Gill performs with The Manny Williams
Trio.
The group has featured some of Boston's most accomplished
musicians: Manny Williams on piano; Reid Jorgensen, drums;
Ron Mahdi, bass; John Stein, guitar and Bill Thompson on reeds
and flute.
A
graphic designer by trade, Gill has won several art direction awards
in Boston, including a Hatch Award. He also serves as a producer
for RG productions. Ron Gill joined 'GBH Radio as a host of Jazz
Gallery in 1989.
Ron Gill's CD, The Songs of Billy Strayhorn,
is a culmination of Gill's twenty-year search for Strayhorn songs. Gill
produced the CD in conjunction with WGBH Radio and it is the first
CD produced and marketed exclusively by WGBH Radio. The
CD features liner notes by David Hajdu, author of Lush Life: A Biography of
Billy Strayhorn.
